Students will:
- Explore sketching as a way of seeing the world differently - observation versus our assumptions
- Engage in inquiry-based activities to learn about contemporary art
- Look closely at the aesthetics and features of contemporary and Renaissance art, architecture, and the unique role of Venice as a crossroads of culture.
- Use hands-on art practice and playful project-making as a form of reflection
- Work together, see Venice together, develop communal understanding
ISP Mission Links:
- Inspiring learners for life. Cultivate the habit of observation, asking questions, enjoying experiences and exploring the arts.
- Healthy, fulfilling and purposeful. An exploration of art and community is all about what is fulfilling and purposeful to us. Presence, focus, and observation in learning and exploring our own views helps us to develop a sense of the world and ourselves that is both healthy and fulfilling.
- Work Cooperatively and Independently. Our activities will require both independent work - each person will have an individual sketchbook - and cooperation - we will share sketchbooks to develop ideas together, have collaborative exercises, and prepare the exhibition.
- An authentic global education within a nurturing student-centered environment. This is a hands-on approach to learning about ourselves during the process of observation, exploration, and sketching. Students will also play a role in decision-making during the trip. Reflection on our own learning will take place on a daily basis as we share tea or coffee and lunches and discuss what we have done and what lies ahead.
